Our Story
About Catalyst
How we started
Built to make musicians
Catalyst Music Lab, founded in 2019, began with a focus on providing exceptional music education while nurturing musical talent. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we remained dedicated to delivering high-quality music education. Starting with just 10 students and 2 teachers, we have since grown to serve approximately 200 students with a team of 10 instructors.
Today, we welcome students of all ages and backgrounds — children taking their first steps in music, teenagers preparing for performances, and adults rediscovering a passion they never had time to pursue.
Mission & Philosophy
Confidence, creativity, foundations, and measurable progress
Our teaching philosophy centres on four pillars: confidence, creativity, strong musical foundations, and measurable progress. We believe technical discipline and creative enjoyment are not opposites — they reinforce each other.
Every student follows a structured path with clear milestones, so progress is visible and motivating. We meet students where they are, whether that's a curious beginner or an advancing player ready for new challenges.
Our Story
A timeline of growth

In October 2019, Catalyst Music Lab was founded by Sam and Sean with only 10 students, operating out of a private housing studio.

Within just three months of starting, we faced the unprecedented challenge of COVID-19. During the lockdown, we swiftly transitioned to online teaching to ensure our students' education continued uninterrupted.

In 2022, we embarked on an exciting new chapter by expanding into a larger, state-of-the-art music center and held our first in-house recital at the end of the year.

In 2023, our teaching staff grew to 10 teachers, and by the end of the year, we had 180 students. We also had the pleasure of hosting the Roland V-Drums Championship preliminary round.

In 2024, we added an adjacent unit to our main space and created a new facility room that serves as a band room and exam room. In May, we held our first RSL in-house examination with Ms. Patricia as the examiner.

In 2025, hosting an in-house piano recital at our own facilities became a meaningful step forward in our continued growth.
